Scan and win - with the Scan4Chem app
What applies to Ecolabel products should actually apply to all: to contain as few harmful substances as possible. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. With the help of the Scan4Chem app, you can get information on chemicals of particular concern in products.
A competition will be held from May to December 2022.
Chemicals of very high concern (SVHCs) can have serious and often irreversible effects on human health and the environment. Details can be found here: Alles Leben ist Chemie | VKI blog
Nevertheless, many SVHCs are still allowed to be present in products. Consumers only have the right to get information about these harmful substances in everyday products and can thus take action against companies. The right to information applies to most objects and packaging, but not to food and liquid and powdery products such as cosmetics and detergents.
With the Scan4Chem app, requests can be made easily and directly to traders and producers. Companies must provide information within 45 days if a substance of very high concern is contained in a product in a concentration of more than 0.1 percent. They must indicate which substance exactly is contained and, if necessary, how the product can be used safely.
Until the end of the year, a "scanning contest" will take place: if you send 5 requests to at least 3 manufacturers or traders, you are in. Every month from May to November a gym bag with some goodies plus a cinema voucher for 30€ will be raffled. The main prize in December is a backpack.
