Fee schedule for the Austrian and European Ecolabel

This fee schedule regulates the fees to be paid by licensees from 1. 3. 2023 onwards. The initial fee is to be paid after signing the licence contract. The annual fees are due on the respective calendar day of the following year. The fee is collected and administered annually by the concessionaire commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism.

General Fee Schedule for Products and Services

The application fee and the annual license fee are calculated on the basis of the annual sales generated in Austria with the products or services covered by the license agreement. The amount of the fee is calculated either on the basis of the licensee's sales report to the concessionaire or on the basis of a self-classification of the licensee into a sales category. If neither a sales report nor a self-classification are made, the sales are estimated by the concessionaire and the licensee will be classified accordingly.

For each additional application for additional products or services, a processing fee of € 130, - will be charged. This fee is also due if a new certificate is issued because of changes in company data or product names.

The following applies to Guideline UZ 76 "Green Producing":
No flat annual fees are charged, but a fee for each application (this can also include several film productions). The respective (in the case of several films, the summed) net production costs are used for calculating the fee.

The maximum fee within the license period of 4 years is € 13,050. After reaching this limit, a processing fee of € 130,- will be charged for each further application.


Fee schedule for tourism, gastronomy and cultural enterprises

The amount of the annual trademark user fee for tourism, catering or cultural businesses located in Austria is assessed according to the assignment to the following business types and fee categories:

Category 1: Accommodation up to 20 beds; gastronomy up to 20 serving places.
Category 2: Accommodation 21-100 beds; catering 21-300 serving places;
catering; refuges*; camping up to 100 pitches; group accommodation**; museums, theaters and cinemas with 1-9 employees; meeting and event venues of municipalities without fixed catering operation
Category 3: Accommodation 101 to 200 beds; catering >300 serving places; camping >100 pitches; conference and event locations with capacity <200 persons; museums, theaters and cinemas with 10-30 employees; community catering operations
Category 4: Lodging establishments with 201-400 beds, conference and event venues with a capacity of 200 to 800 persons, museums, theaters and cinemas with 31-250 employees
Category 5: Accommodation >400 beds; conference and event venues capacity >800 persons; museums, theaters and cinemas >250 employees
The number of employees corresponds to full-time equivalents.

** Establishments with a predominant share of multi-bed rooms or corresponding offer for group travel.

If establishments are active in more than one type of establishment, the largest type of establishment is used as the basis for calculation (e.g. establishments with accommodation and catering).
The application fee (which is only payable for the first application for the award of the Austrian Eco-Label) also includes the costs for the initial inspection. The annual fees for the use of the label include the support of the licensees, the provision and maintenance of the testing software, the financing of marketing activities and the costs of the next follow-up test.

If the Austrian Eco-label for Tourism and either for Education and/or for Green Meetings and Events are used simultaneously, the respective user fee is reduced by 25%. If the respective audits take place together, the application fee is also reduced by 25%.

 


Fee schedule of for Tourism Destinations

The amount of the annual fee for the use of the eco-label for Austrian tourism destinations is calculated according to the allocation to one of the following categories:

Category 1: up to 100,000 overnight stays/year.
Cagetroie 2: 100.001 - 500.000 overnight stays/year
Category 3: 500,001 - 2,000,000 overnight stays/year
Category 4: over 2.000.000 overnight stays/year

In addition, testing costs of 2,000 to 4,000 euros are incurred. These are invoiced depending on the time and effort involved in the initial and subsequent tests.


Fee Schedule for educational institutions

Schools and teacher training institutions are exempted from paying licence fees.

For extracurricular educational institutions, the amount of the annual fee is calculated according to the classification into the following categories:

  • Category KG Kindergartens
  • Category 1 Educational institutions with up to 5 employees
  • Category 2 Educational institutions with 6 to 9 employees
  • Category 3 Educational institutions with 10 to 29 employees
  • Category 4 Educational institutions with 30 and more employees

The number of employees is calculated according to full-time equivalents.

The application fee payable for an application for the initial certification with the Austrian Ecolabel will cover the costs of the initial audit. The annual license fee is used to support the licensees and to cover the costs of a follow-up audit.

Double certification with the Austrian Ecolabel for Educational Institutions and either in the Austrian Ecolabel for Tourism or the Austrian Ecolabel for Green Meetings and Events leads to a reduction of the respective annual fee by 25%. If the respective audits are consolidated, the application fee will also be reduced by 25%.


Fee schedule for the EU Ecolabel for products

In accordance with the conditions set out in Regulation (EC) No 66/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2009 on the EU Ecolabel, the following annual fees are charged for the use of the Ecolabel. The fees are graduated according to the annual turnover achieved in the EEA region with the awarded products or services covered by the user contract

An additional fee of € 130, - will be charged for any further application by a licencee to reward additional products with the European Ecolabel.

Applicants registered under the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) and / or certified to the ISO 14001 standard will benefit from a reduction of 30% (EMAS) or 15% (ISO 14001) of the application fee. For compliance with both systems, only the higher discount applies. For micro-enterprises1 the application fee is a maximum of 350 euros. For small and medium-sized enterprises, the application fee is a maximum of 600 euros.

Fee Schedule for the EU Ecolabel for Tourism Businesses

In accordance with the conditions set out in Regulation (EC) No 66/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2009 on the EU Ecolabel, the following annual fees are charged for the use of the Ecolabel:

The Fee categories are identical to those of the Austrian Ecolabel.

Fee Schedule for the concurrent use of Austrian Ecolabel and EU Ecolabel

For product or service groups for which the same criteria for the Austrian Ecolabel and the EU Ecolabel have been defined pursuant to § 5 (5) of the statutes for the Austrian Ecolabel and for the product group “accommodation establishments”, no fee for use of the Austrian Ecolabel is charged, provided that both certifications are used at the same time and the licence fees are charged in accordance with the applicable EU Ecolabel provisions.

If for the Austrian Ecolabel Directive and EU Ecolabel non identical criteria for the same product or service group are in force, the annual fee for the Austrian Ecolabel will be reduced by 50% if both certificates are used at the same time and the licence fees are charged in accordance with the applicable EU Ecolabel provisions.

If the applications for the use of the two certificates are submitted at the same time, the application fee for the Austrian Ecolabel will be reduced by 25%, if the application fee for the EU Ecolabel is charged in accordance with the applicable EU Ecolabel regulations.

For applications for additional products, only the application fee for the EU Ecolabel will be charged.
