Vice Chancellor and Climate Protection Minister honour sustainable green events and sports clubs

Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler and Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler, together with the Green Events Austria network, honoured the 28 most sustainable festivals, cultural events, sporting events and sports clubs in Austria and awarded the eight best as competition winners.

Austria is a pioneer in sustainable event organisation with the Green Events Austria initiative The nationwide initiative regularly sets new impulses and helps to ensure that common minimum requirements for sustainable events are shared throughout Austria.

"Green Events make an important contribution to a good environment. They rely on climate-friendly travel, ensure that more regional, organic and fair-trade food and beverages are on offer and thus support the local economy. By using reusable systems, they also actively avoid waste. This saves valuable resources and is good for the climate. Congratulations and a big thank you to all sustainable organisers and associations," said Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler.

The "Win sustainably!" competition has been running for 12 years!

The "Win sustainably!" competition was jointly launched by the "Green Events Austria" network in 2011 and annually awards sustainable sports and cultural events, festivals and events, and since 2017 also sports clubs. So far, around 980 events from all over Austria with almost 13 million participants and guests have taken part in all eleven competitions. In total, about 27,000 individual Green Events measures were realised.

"The award-winning Green Events make a significant contribution to a sustainable event industry in Austria. With their commitment, they take on a pioneering role and show how sustainable event organisation can be implemented in practice." emphasises Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Sport Werner Kogler.
