Exemplary insulation and renovation with renewable raw materials
Parts of the facade of a Gründerzeit house in Vienna were insulated with hemp fibre insulation boards from the Ecolabel licensee Capatect from Perg (Synthesa Group). As a result, massive savings in energy and resources could be achieved and sound insulation was significantly improved.
Naporo Klima Dämmstoff GmbH, which belongs to the synthesis group, is the only manufacturer of hemp fibre insulation boards for facades and interiors in Austria. An excellent example of an exemplary facade renovation is the Gründerzeit house in the 15th district of Vienna. Parts of the facades - of the building which was almost completely destroyed in 2014 after a gas explosion - were insulated with hemp fibre insulation boards on the street side and in the inner courtyard. 800 m2 of Capatect Hemp Wall facade insulation boards with a thickness of 20 cm were used. The insulation system ensures massive energy savings and is characterized by the best sound insulation values. This is a real plus especially for buildings with a lot of traffic noise.
The climate- and environment-friendly properties of natural insulation are: no pesticides, no fertilisers during cultivation, hemp stores more carbon dioxide than is released into the atmosphere during cultivation, harvest, processing and transport. Furthermore, the straw and hemp material used comes from the same region where the production site is located (→ Resource savings).
The property is not only convincing because of its ecological quality. It is also a showcase project visually. An important goal was the restoration and reconstruction of the Gründerzeit facades. After completion of the construction work, it will once again shine with the typical stucco ornaments, flaps and end stones and the striking cornice consoles in Gründerzeit glory.
