Nationalpark Hohe Tauern Kärnten - Besucherzentrum Mallnitz
Mallnitz 369822 Mallnitz
Carinthia, Austria

Wild primeval landscape and mountain farming culture – these are the two faces of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Covering over 1,800 square kilometres, it is by far the largest contiguous nature reserve in Central Europe. Parts oft three Austrian provinces – Carinthia, Salzburg and Tyrol – are in the protected area.
The Hohe Tauern National Park Carinthia offers a range of educational programmes for a wide variety of target groups.
The adult education programme invites anyone interested to learn more about nature and the concept of national parks. Geology, botany, ecology and environmental education are just some of the topics on which the National Park Academy regularly organises seminars, courses and conferences.
The national park school programmes, which are run by our national park rangers, place particular emphasis on sustainable education. The kindergarten programme, project week programmes and water and climate school programme make nature ‘tangible’ for children and young people and teach them about the sensitivity of the ecosystem and regional and global aspects. In the partner school programme with schools from the region, pupils are accompanied by courses throughout their school years and experience nature ‘up close’ during alpine courses lasting several days.
During the summer holidays, the National Park offers programmes for children and young people, such as Junior Ranger training, the Young Researchers' Club and the Kindergarten Researchers' Club.
Our certified National Park rangers offer exciting nature experiences as part of guided tours in the summer and winter programmes, providing valuable information on flora, fauna, cultural landscape, geology and climate change. On request, inclusive hikes on the certified hiking trail in the picturesque Seebachtal valley are also organised.
The BIOS National Park Centre and the House of the Ibexes are popular destinations for families and schools. The exhibitions allow visitors to immerse themselves in the exciting history of the National Park and the region and the nature is conveyed in a tangible way and encourages visitors to explore for themselves.
