Vienna City Card with Austrian Ecolabel
The Vienna City Card, Vienna's official guest card, was awarded the Austrian Ecolabel at the end of December 2022 for its environmentally friendly mobility offers.
Following an audit by the Association for Consumer Information, the Vienna City Card was awarded the right to bear the Austrian Ecolabel - the independent and state-approved seal of approval for the environment and quality - for its environmentally friendly mobility offers. This makes the Vienna City Card the first certified "green" guest card in the world. For the Ecolabel, this award is also special because it is the first time that it has been awarded for climate-friendly, multi-modal mobility.
From next spring, only hotels with a sustainability certificate will be included in the Vienna Tourist Board guest card. The Vienna City Card offers more than 200 discounts and free travel on public transport. A discount of up to 20% applies at selected hotels.
The world's first environmentally certified City Card
The Vienna Guest Card is not only one of the best-selling City Cards in Europe, but also one of the most sustainable. With the recent award of the Austrian Ecolabel, it is the first environmentally certified City Card worldwide.
Norbert Kettner, Director of the Vienna Tourist Board, welcomed the certification:
"When guests decide to travel, the ecological footprint a trip leaves behind plays an increasingly important role. From the much-cited last mile that the guest covers to the accommodation, to getting around in the destination, to the consumption of services, Vienna's city tourism sets strong accents in terms of climate protection. With the environmental certification of the Vienna City Card, this has been enriched by a broadly effective facet."
Sustainable mobility in Vienna and when travelling
For 27 years now, the Vienna City Card has enabled sustainable mobility for visitors to Vienna with the Wiener Linien. Visitors to Vienna can receive a discount on their journey when purchasing the card before starting their journey.
Vienna City Card online
The Vienna City Card can be purchased online at www.viennacitycard.at, via the destination app "ivie" of the Vienna Tourist Board or at the tourist information offices. But it is also available at ÖBB, Westbahn (online or at ticket counters) as well as in hotels, Wiener Linien or at Vienna International Airport.
Depending on the chosen variant and period of validity, it is available from 17 euros. Anyone who already has a Vienna City Card (e.g. purchased online) before starting their journey receives a 10% discount on their Westbahn ticket to Vienna - for up to three people. Conversely, Westbahn customers receive a 10% discount when purchasing a Vienna City Card online. Cardholders can look forward to over 200 price advantages for sightseeing, guided tours, concerts, shopping and bike rental as well as a 20% discount in selected restaurants and hotels. The destination app "ivie" is the ideal complement to the card when exploring the city: guests and Viennese can use it to explore the city in a climate-friendly way by walking.
