Who can acquire the Austrian Ecolabel?
The Austrian Ecolabel is awarded to products or services, tourism and catering businesses as well as schools and non-school educational institutions. In the tourism and education sectors, the entire company is certified.
Tourism and education companies are thus entitled to unlimited use of the Ecolabel for their public presentation. In contrast, in the product sector, individual specific articles and services are certified. The Ecolabel can then be used to promote and label these products. Details on the use of the Ecolabel are laid down in the Ecolabel contract which the users of the Ecolabel conclude with the Federal Ministry of Climate Action.
Applications for the award of the Ecolabel are submitted to the Association for Consumer Information (VKI). Applicants can be any natural or legal person who is domiciled or has its registered office in Austria, manufactures products in Austria or imports products into Austria or offers a service in Austria.
The requirement of a domicile or residence in Austria is deemed to be fulfilled if the applicant has his domicile or residence in an EU Member State or EEA State. If required, the contract and the certificate will also be issued in English.
Applications for the Ecolabel can only be submitted after publication of a guideline for the relevant product group or service.
