Kindergarten Pinocchio in Frohnleiten
Schulweg 3a8130 Frohnleiten
Styria, Austria

Our educational facility is located in a newly renovated building with spacious, light-filled rooms that create an inspiring environment for exploration, play, and learning. This learning space is complemented by a large garden with gently rolling terrain and a variety of play opportunities, offering children valuable experiences in nature and physical activity throughout the year.
The garden is actively used and shaped all year round: children garden together in the berry hedges, raised beds, potato towers, and wildflower areas, which provide an important habitat for bees and other insects. In this way, they experience natural cycles firsthand and develop an early understanding of sustainable practices.
Thanks to the central location of our facility, many children are able to walk to kindergarten. This allows us to consciously avoid car journeys and make an active contribution to climate protection.
With our in-house cook, we are also able to prepare fresh meals every day, placing special emphasis on seasonal and regional ingredients—sourced from local farmers as well as from our own kindergarten garden.
Our Eco-Label Slogan
“Small footprints can make a big difference.”
This guiding principle reminds us every day that even small steps can have a powerful impact—especially when we take them together. The eco-label stands for our responsibility toward nature and for the future of our children.
Climate education and environmental protection are central components of our pedagogical work. We aim to raise children’s awareness of their environment from an early age and to show them how important it is to treat natural resources with care. Through age-appropriate, hands-on experiences, children learn to understand connections in nature, take responsibility, and make sustainable decisions.
An early awareness of environmental issues supports children in growing into reflective and responsible adults. Regular contact with nature also strengthens their emotional connection to the environment, fostering curiosity, resilience, and a respectful attitude toward all living things—an essential foundation for a sustainable future.

The eco-label is far more than an award for our kindergarten. It is a visible commitment to our educational philosophy and to our responsibility toward the environment, society, and future generations—guided by our motto: “Small footprints can make a big difference.” By carrying the eco-label, we aim to document, reflect on, and continuously develop our consistent commitment to sustainability.
At our kindergarten, children experience environmental protection not as a theoretical concept, but as a natural part of their everyday lives. Through thoughtfully designed learning environments, sustainable structures, and lived role models, they come to understand that their own actions have an impact. The eco-label supports us in clearly communicating this approach to the outside world and in making our educational mission in environmental and climate protection visible.
Another key motivation is the quality assurance of our work. The criteria of the eco-label provide us with a clear and binding framework to regularly review, evaluate, and purposefully improve our existing measures. In this way, sustainability is not left to chance but is systematically embedded throughout the entire kindergarten operation—from educational practice and resource use to collaboration with parents and partners.
The eco-label also strengthens our role as a model. Children learn primarily through imitation. By consciously taking responsibility and making sustainable decisions as a kindergarten, we convey values such as mindfulness, respect, and responsibility. These values shape children in the long term and encourage them to remain committed to protecting the environment beyond their time in kindergarten.
At the same time, the eco-label sends an important signal to parents, providers, and the wider public. It creates transparency, trust, and orientation, demonstrating that sustainability in our institution is not occasional, but holistic and long-term. Parents are encouraged to join us on this path, to get involved, and to continue sustainable practices in their family lives.
Finally, we see the eco-label as a driver for shared learning and continuous development. It motivates our team to develop new ideas, question established concepts, and work together to create innovative, environmentally friendly solutions. In this way, sustainability remains a dynamic process that continuously adapts to new challenges.
By carrying the eco-label, we consciously take responsibility—for the environment, for the quality of education in our institution, and above all for the future of the children. It supports our goal of guiding children from an early age to become environmentally aware, capable, and responsible individuals, thereby making an active contribution to a sustainable society—because “Small footprints can make a big difference.
