The Gesellschaft für Wasser- und Abfallwirtschaft GmbH (GWAW) is a subsidiary of the Austrian Water and Waste Management Association (ÖWAV). It was founded in 1998 to organise and manage ÖWAV’s training and education programs.

GWAW is a success story in education within the water and waste management sector:

• Regular networking and knowledge exchange through our conferences
• Long-established training programs: For example, the “Training for Wastewater Treatment Operators” (established late 1960s), which has played a key role in developing top-tier expertise in wastewater treatment in Austria. Introductory courses on water, waste, and procurement law (ABC courses) are also very popular.
• Numerous other up-to-date training programs, such as “Flood Protection Facilities”, “Landfill Entry Control” and “Management of Invasive Plant Species”
• Consistent alignment of our educational offerings with environmental protection and sustainability considerations—both in topic selection and organisational aspects (EMAS audit, event venues, catering, etc.)
