Since 1996, the Donau-Auen National Park has been sustainably preserving the sensitive floodplain areas along the Danube from Vienna to the Slovakian border. The visitor centre is located in the revitalised castle Schloss Orth an der Donau. It houses national park exhibitions, the Schlossinsel nature experience area, a shop and information point as a visitor attraction and centre for environmental education, as well as the offices of the national park administration.
