Funding for green film productions

In order to make film production in Austria even greener, film funding institutions are also increasingly focusing on green filming and particularly support productions that have been produced according to the criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel.

Green Filming at the Austrian Film Institute

Starting in 2021, the Austrian Film Institute (ÖFI) will promote "Green Producing in Film and Television" based on the criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel. Certification is possible, but not mandatory. In order to anchor "green filming" in the production culture as quickly as possible and to communicate the necessary know-how, further training measures will be specifically promoted. Any additional costs for taking the new quality standards into account will in principle be eligible for funding.

With the initiative and introduction of a final "Green Report" (production) and the possibility of optional development of a "Green Concept" (project development), the Austrian Film Institute would like to draw attention to the topic of ecological sustainability in film production and thereby offer film productions assistance in approaching the topic of "green filming".

To this end, the Austrian Film Institute has developed two action guides for the respective funding levels of production and project development. These contain information on the topic of green filming, submission of the funding and the final report.

In this way, the Film Fund supports producers in their goal of climate-neutral production through sustainable and ecological management.

In detail, the amendment refers to the fulfillment of the Austrian Ecolabel UZ 76 for Green Producing in Film and Television and, for funded events, to the Ecolabel UZ 62 for Green Meetings and Green Events.
