The new school bags from schneiders.

School is even more fun with a sustainable school bag!

Especially for primary school children, a sustainable and ergonomic school bag is enormously important and often accompanies them for several years. The initiative "Clever shopping for school" offers anup-to-date list and guide for buying school bags and school backpacks.
SCHOOLQUIZ starts on 23 February!

A new trend in the industry

It is encouraging that more and more brand manufacturers are focusing on ecological and social requirements for their models. They are using recycled plastics or organic cotton, organic leather and more recently, renewable raw materials such as algae. More and more manufacturers are making transparent which materials are used and under which production conditions the bags are made. Selected certifications and seals guarantee parents that certain harmful substances are not used. Various manufacturers commit themselves to continuously improving their environmental performance with the "bluesign®SYSTEM PARTNER" certificate. The "PFC Free" label - PFC stands for perfluorinated and polyfluorinated chemicals that are used for impregnating bags and are classified as hazardous - and the "Fair Wear Foundation (FWF)" label are helpful in this respect.
A new addition is the "Green Button", with which companies can demonstrate social and ecological responsibility in their textile supply chain. School bags and backpacks consist of a lot of textile fibres that are produced and processed globally.

Since climate change has dominated the environmental discussion, the range of bags that are supposed to guarantee "climate neutrality" is also growing. All the criteria used can be seen at a glance, making it easy to establish a personal ranking between the models.

Re use - us!

The most sustainable approach is to use your backpack or school bag for as long as possible. Even with second-hand goods or leftover models, money can be saved and a suitable school backpack or school bag can still be found. Tips for more sustainability also include proper care, repair when necessary and a warranty with the longest possible period.

Inform yourself and then buy - preferably in a shop

In addition to the researched list, there is also a guide to buying school bags and backpacks online or to order.

If you are not only looking for a bag but also notebooks, pens, folders, erasers, calculators and other school articles that should also be as sustainable as possible, it is best to use the online product finder on the Initiative's website www.schuleinkauf.at. Here, more than 500 sustainable products are listed. Here you can find more than 4,500 sustainable product recommendations for school materials. In addition, mini-guidebooks and campaign materials are available for download free of charge or can be ordered free of charge from info@umweltzeichen.at.
