Vienna Central Station - environmentally friendly, safe and healthy electric installation

The Ecolabel licensee Dietzel supplied a total of 64 kilometres of halogen-free electrical installation material without plasticisers and heavy metal stabilisers.

In the event of fire, neither corrosive nor environmentally harmful combustion products (e.g. hydrochloric acid) and corrosive gases (e.g. dioxins!), which are deadly to humans and can become a danger to electrical components and supporting structures, are produced. The project is therefore an excellent example of sustainable construction and health & safety in the event of fire.

During the planning and construction of the Vienna Central Station, ÖBB placed great emphasis on a sustainable approach to the environment. For example, intelligent construction logistics made it possible to avoid 46,000 truck journeys with rubble and material, and the rail transport of excavated material saved around 30,000 truck loads. Photovoltaic and geothermal systems generate 13 % of the total energy demand directly at the railway station.

The partner of Dietzel, Klenk & Meder, was in charge of this project in a joint venture and installed the entire electrical installation with approx. 1,500 km of cable length, approx. 180 low-voltage fields, approx. 200 distributors and much more. On average, 30 Klenk & Meder fitters were involved in this project, and at peak times even 75 fitters.
