Building materials with Austrian Ecolabel for children and family centre

The new kindergarten building (timber construction) in Poppenweiler (near Ludwigsburg, Germany) serves as a role model for child- and family-friendly architecture: bright and variedly designed rooms in combination with simple, consistently used materials.

Environmentally friendly building materials were used, for example the timber preservative Lignovit Interior UV 100 from the Ecolabel licensee Adler.

The water-based interior stain is free of chemical preservatives and provides excellent indoor air from the first day at kindergarten. The energy-efficient building also has controlled ventilation with heat recovery.

As a timber construction, the new building stands in sharp contrast to the existing stone structure. In spite of the clear separation in material and construction, a new whole is created by the new and old building.

The differentiation of the two parts of the building is also continued inside. To create a bright, friendly and spacious atmosphere all surfaces in the new building, are made of three-ply slabs of spruce. For the surface treatment, the Adler company`s timber preservative, certified with the Austrian Ecolabel, was used. This product preserves the wood's natural look and feel, protects it effectively against aging and UV radiation, but allows the wood to live and breathe - so that children can also live and breathe freely in these rooms.
