The best Green Events awarded

The winners of the "NachhaltigGewinnen" competition organized by the Green Events Austria initiative received high praise from Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler, Vice Chancellor and Sports Minister Werner Kogler and Vienna's Climate City Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky.

Competition "Win sustainably! 2020/2021"
The "Win sustainably!" competition took place for the tenth time in 2020/2021. In addition to many regional initiatives, top-class Austrian Ecolabel events were once again included.

"Green Events focus on climate-friendly travel, push the offer of regional, organic and fair trade food and beverages. These measures are an important contribution to more climate protection and support the local economy. By using reusable systems at Green Events, waste is actively avoided. Green Events thereby also contribute to the conservation of valuable resources and to circular economy," says Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler.

The winners in the "Festivals" category were the BIO Camp "Sherlock Holmes' most sustainable case" in Upper Austria, the Picnic on the Farm in Tyrol, the Austrian Ecolabel-certified Klimaberg Summit 2021 on the Katschberg in Carinthia and the Worldtrash workshop festival in Vienna. Acoustic Qlash 2021 in Upper Austria, the Ecolabel-certified Artist Drums and Fire in Burgenland, and wellenklaenge 2021 in Lower Austria, which is also Ecolabel-certified, were convincing in the "cultural events" category.

In the sports events category, the Burgenland Extreme Tour 2021, the 5th beach volleyball tournament for a good cause in Burgenland, and Vienna's Ecolabel-certified SEESTADT:EINZEL:ZEITLAUF 2020 came out on top. The winning sports clubs in this competition are Fit 2 Go Sportverein Trofaiach from Styria, Sportunion volleyteam Mödling from Lower Austria and Österreichischer Betriebssport Verband in Vienna. The ideas competition for virtual green events, which was held for the first time, was won by Hybrid Green Wedding at BIO Stadlerhof in Wilhering, the virtual Biogast trade fair and the Windrad Festival by IG Windkraft.

Details about the implemented Green Event measures of the awarded events and associations can be found in the new brochure Green Events Austria and at nachhaltiggewinnen.at/rueckblick.

This year's nominees and award winners will receive prize money totaling €25,000 and sustainable products from Fairtrade Austria. The prize money was provided by the main sponsors of the competition - ARA, the "Reinwerfen statt Wegwerfen" initiative, Raiffeisen Capital Management and TOMRA.

"The award-winning Green Events and associations make a significant contribution to a sustainable event industry in Austria. With their commitment, they take on a pioneering role and show how sustainable event organization can be implemented in practice," emphasizes Vice Chancellor and Sports Minister Werner Kogler.

Competition "win sustainably!" has already been running for 10 years!
25,000 Green Events measures, realized at 820 events from all over Austria with more than 12 million participants and guests - that is the successful balance after 10 years of competition "win sustainably!" Launched in 2011 by the Green Events Austria network, it annually honors sustainable sports and cultural events, festivals and events, and since 2017 also sports clubs.

"Vienna was a founding member of the Green Events Austria Network in 2008 and has been running a special consulting program for Viennese event organizers for 11 years. With the ÖkoEvent program, we offer support in the environmentally friendly design and promotion of events in Vienna. Our platform provides you with information, tips and sources of supply to delight your guests and also the environment with an exuberant and sustainable celebration," says Vienna Climate City Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky.

Launch of the competition "sustainable win!" 2021/2022:
And it continues! Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler, Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler and Climate City Councillor Jürgen Czernohorszky jointly launch the 11th competition year 2021/22: "Also in 2021/2022, we will continue this success story together with all partners, especially with the many committed and innovative organizers, so we call the competition "win sustainably!" again and look forward to numerous submissions until late summer 2022."
